Dr Pat decided she wanted to be a vet at an early age- she grew up with a Chinese mongrel named Ma Jai and she rode horses whilst growing up in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom.
After gaining her veterinary qualification from Royal Veterinary College, University of London, United Kingdom- Dr Pat spent a year working as an equine vet for the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Not content with only British veterinary qualifications, Dr Pat travelled to America and successfully passed the examinations conducted by the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr Pat enjoyed living on the sunny isle of Australia. It was a great experience where she spent a year 'going troppo' in the Northern Territory -- working in an equine and small animal practice in Darwin. Dr Pat took advantage of her time in Darwin by taking flying lessons (learning to fly light aircraft). Later, a stint as a vet in Broken Hill (a mining town in the outback) exposed Dr Pat to a different way of living - since some clients had driven for over four hours just to see her!
Dr Pat has worked in a number of charity veterinary hospitals in the world, including the Blue Cross Hospital in Victoria, London and the RSPCA in Sydney, Australia. At the RSPCA in Sydney, Dr Pat was asked to mentor final year vet students from University of Sydney. Dr Pat gained her surgical membership of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in 2004.
After a long time abroad, Dr Pat decided to fulfill her desire to return to Hong Kong in early 2006, when she commenced working at Peace Avenue Veterinary Clinic in Mong Kok.
After a year working at Peace Avenue, Dr Pat decided that she would like to provide a caring, high quality veterinary service to the Northern New Territories, and after a lot of effort and hard work opened 'Pet Cares Professional Veterinary Services' in Tai Po in June 2007.
In 2010, Dr Pat gained Hong Kong ‘Mentor of the Year’ award by Australian Animal Industries Resource Centre (AIRC) for her contribution towards veterinary nursing training.
